Biography

Andrea al-Amar has been a consummate performer since she learned to walk. She has studied many dance forms, including tap, ballet, jazz, and modern dance, as well as some theater, and since her first dance performance at the age of 4, she has never been a stranger to the stage.

Since her first belly dance class in 2004, she has studied middle eastern dance intensively through classes and workshops with many teachers and master instructors (see below) including Suhaila Salimpour, Aziza, Jillina, Ava Fleming, Tamalynn Dallal, and Elisa Gamal. While living in Northern Virginia, she performed with Troupe Arabesque, a middle-eastern dance performance ensemble directed by Wendy Youssef. After moving to Seattle, WA in 2005, she began training in belly dance and Kathak-style Bollywood dance with her current teacher, her friend and mentor, the famous international belly dance champion Nalini, known as Natalya Landar in Russia. She currently performs regularly as a soloist at Mamounia in Capitol Hill, and with Nalini’s newly-formed Indian Bollywood troupe
